Cat Adoption Forms / Adoptable Animals
There are several steps to the adoption process:
Because we are committed to perfect matches which last a lifetime, we do not adopt out animals on a first come, first served basis. Adoptions are based upon the personality and needs, as well as those of the adoptive family. If for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the animal is returned to us.
We appreciate your patience, which helps us, help you, find the right dog or cat. Our adopters tend to be those not in a rush, but those with a deep desire to adopt just the right animal. We consider this new pet to be an adopted family member, who lives with you and participates in your everyday life.
Because we rescue, rehabilitate and place any breed or mix of breeds, there is always an educational portion involved. Most often this is dog behavior and age related information, as well as breed specific research.
All dogs adopted through Misha May may attend Beginning Training Classes at half price. Please click here and you will be taken to our Classes. Behavior counseling and Boarding are also available.
Misha May normally spends a minimum of $350 per dog, and in many cases where there are medical or training issues, the amount can easily exceed $2000. Our adoption fees average $200 - $250. Typically this includes a vet exam, distemper, rabies, kennel cough vaccine, spay / neuter and micro-chip ID. Most of our foster dogs also attend our training classes.
If you have specific questions, please e-mail them to mishamayfoundation@gmail.com.
Step 1. Please complete and email the appropriate application below. Since all of our animals are cared for in foster homes until we manifest The Misha May Sanctuary, Training and Adoption Center, this is our initial screening instrument. Click here to read our press release from the Hurricane Katrina rescue.
Step 2. A Misha May volunteer representative will contact you after your references and veterinarian have been called.
Step 3. An appointment will be set up for you to travel to meet the animal(s) of interest.
Step 4. An appointment will be set up for a Misha May volunteer representative to bring the animal to your home. At this time, we will facilitate meetings with other animals and people living in the household. Everyone involved will observe and evaluate the situation as successful or not.
Step 5. If all parties agree, we will move forward with the Adoption Placement Contract and finalize the adoption. If anyone disagrees, we will discuss alternative options: i.e. - more training, a different animal, no further action.

Cat Adoption Process
We do not typically have cats for adoption. However, due to special circumstances, we find ourselves helping with cats from time to time. The process is similar to that for the dogs. Adoption fees differ, however. Cats over 6 months are $50; kittens are $75; fees for pure-bred cats vary.
