Toby

Featured Mutts and Happy Tails

This is Toby!

Toby is a handsome 2-3 year old neutered male blonde Husky mix with beautiful amber eyes who appears quite healthy. He is housetrained, up to date on vaccines, including rabies, is heartworm negative and micro chipped. You gotta love a dog who talks to you! Toby loves affection, is very communicative and could probably learn to say, “I love you!” Toby does well with most dogs and people, but prefers strong energy, so puppies and kids make him nervous. He loves to play with other dogs, and would love a brother or sister or a pack! A securely fenced yard is a necessity and frequent interaction with his people would make him happy! He is very good in the home, does not need a crate and is good being alone and in a car. Toby wears a harness or a collar for walking and does quite well, although he does like to pull in excitement at the beginning of the walk. He checks in often and wants to please. He is a quirky, friendly, loving, affectionate dog. For instance he will grab your socks or shoes and run away for attention but he never chews! Toby absolutely loves the snow! He loves, loves, loves other Huskies at the dog park and romps and plays for as long as we can stay. He is strong, muscular, athletic and a natural runner.

More pics and info about Toby can be seen on Faceook or Petfinder.

  • Grey's Story

  • On May 8, 2007 Grey's surgery was performed by cardiologist, Dr. Karen Sanderson of Alameda East Veterinary Hospital who discounted her services. The procedure is called a balloon valvoplasty, which is similar to angioplasty for humans. A balloon was sent through to open the blockage. The The procedure is minimally invasive with an incision at the neck and recovery time of one to two weeks while the incision heals. Click here to see the original newspaper story about Grey.

  • In each interview I was asked why Grey? Why spend so much money on him when there are so many animals who need help? I was pleased to be asked that question as it allowed me to talk about the mission of Misha May. I mainly highlighted 4 things:
    1) Misha May attempts to help whichever dogs show up for us to help. The dog doesn't need to fit any criteria or standard like breed or age or personality or health; Misha May accommodates the dog, and who he or she is. This has meant holistic cancer treatments, long-term behavior training; puppy developmental education, heartworm treatments, etc. Or, as in this case, specific fund raising for Grey's surgery.

    2) We treat dogs as if they are owned, not homeless. The difference in perception means we assume there is a home waiting for them and that if we do what is needed it will happen. We demonstrate that rescue can be not just humane but actually pleasant for the animals. They become and remain extremely adoptable. So far, so good!

    3) Because we treat our dogs as part of the Misha May family, we provide a model, which encourages and supports the public to do the same. We don't discard our pets, euthanize them, give up on them, mistreat them, or abandon them. We believe it is unacceptable to treat a pet in that manner. We will take a dog back any time during his or her life.

    4) In helping each individual dog, we always help additional dogs. In this situation, for example, we set out to raise money for Grey, but between donations and discounts, we most probably will have more than Grey needs. Grey has said he will be most happy to share with our other rescues. Grey was helped and then helped others. We like that very much!
